Emily r. Barcenas, Esq.

Ms. Barce­nas is a lit­i­ga­tion asso­ciate at Bri­an P. Kamel & Asso­ciates.  After grad­u­at­ing sum­ma cum laude from Wal­la Wal­la Uni­ver­si­ty, Ms. Barce­nas received a Bach­e­lor of Arts degree in Speech Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, minor­ing in Psy­chol­o­gy.  In her senior year, she was elect­ed as stu­dent body pres­i­dent, respon­si­ble for near­ly a five hun­dred thou­sand dol­lar bud­get to pro­vide activ­i­ties and events for stu­dents, fac­ul­ty, and staff. In this role, Ms. Barce­nas devel­oped key inter­per­son­al com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills lead­ing her cab­i­net and solv­ing stu­dent issues as they arose.  This back­ground has pro­vid­ed her with those qual­i­ties nec­es­sary to be suc­cess­ful in nego­ti­a­tions with oppos­ing coun­sel. In addi­tion, Ms. Barce­nas has a spe­cial pas­sion for the defense of health­care prac­ti­tion­ers, as Ms. Barce­nas comes from a fam­i­ly of health care providers in the area of both med­i­cine and psy­chi­a­try.


After grad­u­a­tion from col­lege, Ms. Barce­nas then obtained her Juris Doc­tor degree from Willamette Uni­ver­si­ty. Dur­ing her time there, she was on the Dean’s List, she was an exec­u­tive board mem­ber of Moot Court, and she was the grad­u­at­ing vice pres­i­dent of her class. Addi­tion­al­ly, she edit­ed the Willamette Law Online, a week­ly news arti­cle sent to thou­sands of attor­neys on the West Coast. She also gained valu­able expe­ri­ence clerk­ing for a bank­rupt­cy and per­son­al injury firm through­out law school. This allowed Ms. Barce­nas to gain hands-on expe­ri­ence in per­son­al injury civ­il lit­i­ga­tion, as well as finan­cial plan­ning and account­ing.


Pri­or to work­ing at Bri­an P. Kamel & Asso­ciates, Ms. Barce­nas was an asso­ciate at a River­side defense law firm where she reg­u­lar­ly rep­re­sent­ed clients in court. Her cur­rent prac­tice includes the defense of med­ical and den­tal prac­ti­tion­ers in civ­il lit­i­ga­tion, as well as the defense of doc­tors in licen­sure cas­es. Her prac­tice also includes the defense of health care prac­ti­tion­ers in the area of labor and employ­ment lit­i­ga­tion.
